About the 462 Visa Extension

General Information

The Second Work & Holiday 462 visa for Australia allows you to extend your stay in the country with additional 12 months.

This means your stay in Australia would be up to 24 months in total. You can apply for this extension to your visa while in Australia or outside the country.

Eligibility

You can apply for this visa if:

  • You are aged between 18 and 30 (not yet 31)
  • You have complied with all the conditions on your first Work and Holiday visa
  • You have not previously held more than one Work and Holiday visa
  • You have completed three months of work in specified areas of northern and regional Australia (as specified in the conditions of your first Work and Holiday visa – subclass 462
  • You can provide evidence of this specified work. Download the Employment Verification Form 1464 herе. This must be completed by each employer you have done seasonal work for during your first 12 months in Oz.
Requirements

In order to apply for the 462 visa extension, you will be required to provide a number of documents. These may include:

  • A valid passport (with blank pages)
  • Passport photographs
  • Completed application form
  • Current bank statement showing that you have enough money to support yourself in Australia (AUD 5,000)

Yes, extending your work and holiday visa in Australia is possible. However, to be eligible for a second year, you must have completed a specific period of “specified work” in designated regional areas of Australia while holding your first work and holiday visa. Specified work includes work in industries such as agriculture, construction, mining, and fishing.

Note that you will need to apply for the visa extension before your current visa expires and while you are in Australia.

Previously, you could only work with the same employer in for a maximum of six months on your working holiday in Australia.
However, since 1 January 2024, you can work for the same employer in Australia for more than since months in the following circumstances:

  • If you’re employed in critical sectors like agriculture, health, food processing, disability care, aged care, and childcare nationwide
  • If your employment revolves around plant and animal cultivation across Australia
  • If you’re engaged in specific industries, such as aged care, disability services, fishing, pearling, tree farming, felling, construction, and mining, limited to northern Australia
  • You’re employed in different locations, ensuring your stay doesn’t surpass 6 months in any single place
  • If you’re employed in the critical domain of tourism and hospitality throughout Australia
  • If your role involves contributing to natural disaster recovery efforts
